Question by Barton: windows virus troubles! never dealt with one like this!?
ok so im not new at this
i remove viruses all the time from other peoples computers
i hardly ever get any viruses but today is just one of those days
avg didnt stop it and couldnt remove it. i managed to delete them myself.
i ran malware bytes and that managed to get rid of a lot of them
i even booted into my ubuntu partition and scanned with clamAV
mozilla and IE wont open. there is no more detections of any viruses.
previous viruses i have had to go to the registry and delete some keys
but idk what this virus is
IE just stops responding
i booted into mozilla in safe mode and everything, still crashes
im using google chrome right now
for some reason when i boot up my computer and i check task manager it has a 398754171.tmp running taking up like 15k + of my memory.
im not sure if its safe to delete
(im not looking for anti virus software to download)
i meant it takes up 15,000 kb + memory
i have also done a full uninstall and reinstall of mozilla
PROBLEM SOLVED
how did i forget about rootkits?
i couldn’t find the .sys file i was looking for cuz it was hidden in windows
booted right up in ubuntu and deleted it

It seems to me that you have a rootkit. They tend to hide themselves, even from the task manager. They also know how to trick even the best of anti-virus programs and even computer techs. My friend is a computer tech and he said the best thing to do is to just reinstall windows because they are super difficult to find and delete, even for a computer tech. Also you can try to google this rootkit and try to delete it manually, but be careful if you go into the registrar because you could delete a vital process and give yourself the blue screen of death.
