Perle Iolan Sdsc Ldc Console Servers Awarded Nebs Certification

NASHVILLE, TN—April 9, 2010— Perle Systems, the global developer and manufacturer of serial to Ethernet connectivity solutions today announced Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) Level 3 compliance on the full range of IOLAN SDSC LDC Console Servers. NEBS Level 3 is the strict system design guidelines applied to telecommunications equipment located in a Central Office network for the long haul.

This certification means that Perle IOLAN SDSC LDC Console Servers meet all of the safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and environmental requirements set forth for use of equipment in Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) central office applications.

Perle IOLAN SDSC LDC Console Servers are a cost effective serial-to-Ethernet solution. In addition to extensive security features, these IOLAN’s are designed to operate in the harsh environments associated with Telecommunications. They have support for Telco DC voltage ranges, extended operating temperatures and meet emission, immunity and safety approvals associated with telecommunications equipment.

“The telecommunications industry requires more cost-effective ways of managing networks,” said John Feeney, Chief Operating Officer at Perle Systems. “Telecommunications equipment is often installed in lights-out data centres, distant POP sites, and co-location facilities. As a result, gaining access for re-boots, configuration changes or diagnostics may be a costly exercise. And, remote in-band SNMP management systems may not provide an effective solution. If any key components fail, revenue may be lost and customer satisfaction is affected.”

Feeney continues, “The Perle IOLAN SDSC LDC Console Servers solve this problem by enabling network administrators to access the serial ports on telecommunications equipment whatever the circumstances. The IOLAN will complement in-band management tools with a remote access path, even when the network is down.”

Perle Systems Launches High-density Ethernet to Fiber Media Converter System

NASHVILLE, TN – June 17, 2010 – Perle is pleased to announce the new high density 19-slot Media Converter Chassis System for end-to-end fiber to Ethernet conversion. These new Media Converter Racks are ideal for large enterprises and campus environments where they are adding the benefits of fiber to their UTP copper-based network.

“One of the number one challenges that IT departments face today is future proofing their network with additional bandwidth capacity,” said John Feeney, COO of Perle Systems. “The data transmission distances and EMI protection supported by fiber optic lines is ideal but, huge budgets are necessary to replace all of the existing copper based Ethernet hardware. Fiber based switches, router and firewalls are generally 3 times more expensive that their copper based counterparts. Using Media Converters to transparently connect Ethernet to fiber is the solution.”

Feeney continues, “The use of chassis-based media converters is a cost effective means of providing fiber connectivity in a large network. By consolidating Ethernet to fiber conversion in a rack mount media converter chassis, various types of fiber links can be brought into a single wiring closet platform. This simplifies deployment and maintenance and also provides a scalable means to grow the network as needed.”

Perle’s Media Converter line includes an extensive choice of full-featured solutions to connect 10BaseT, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet to fiber. With the use of high-end components Perle guarantees, with a Lifetime Warranty, complete user satisfaction. And, all Perle Media Converters have an on-board microcontroller which deals with error detection and recovery.
