Definition of Neuro-linguistic Programming

NLP is a set of models of how communication impacts and is impacted by subjective experience. In addition to being an agent for change, NLP is also used in psychotherapy treatments for problems as diverse as phobias and schizophrenia. NLP also aims at transforming corporations, showing them how to accomplish their maximum potential and achieve great success.

Who crafted the NLP process?

The theories and application of NLP were co-created by two men in the 1970’s. One a linguist, John Grinder and his partner Richard Bandler. The initial focus of their experiments in NLP was to discover what gave three psychotherapists the advantage in successfully treating their clients. These three psychotherapists, gestalt therapist Fritz Perls, family therapist Virginia Satir and founding president of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis, Milton H. Erickson, were more successful in treatment than that of their peers.

Timeline of NLP

1970: Founding and early development

1972: Research of Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and Milton H. Erickson begins.

1975: Subsequently Structure of Magic Series published

1976-77: Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson published

1979: Frogs into Princes: Neuro Linguistic Programming published

1980: Neuro-Linguistic Programming: Volume I published

1980: Bandler and Grinder go their separate ways

1981: The first of many intellectual property lawsuits begin. NLP Training courses begin to be developed by many individuals. Given the diversity of developers and trainers, there is no single definitive system of NLP.

1982-87: Grinder and Judith DeLozier collaborated to develop the New Code of NLP.

1984-87: Research reviews in experimental counselling psychology by the United States National Research Council gave NLP an overall negative assessment marking a decrease in NLP research interest

1988-89: Bandler develops Design Human Engineering™ and later Neuro-Hypnotic Repatterning™

1990s: In the UK and other countries certification of NLP courses and providers begins

1996-97: Bandler files suit against Grinder claiming trademark infringement and intellectual property ownership of NLP.

Where the co-creators are now

The end of 2000 achieved a settlement between Bandler and Grinder when they agreed, “they are the co-creators and co-founders of the technology of Neuro-linguistic Programming.”

Richard Bandler is currently with The Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming™ and John Grinder can be found at The International Trainers Academy of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

The programming languages you need to know about for successful ecommerce, online marketing, and search engine optimization

Everyone knows about the excellent content management systems and blogging platforms out there. These will help those who need to quickly put together a site. One needs to factor scaling, search engine optimization, etc. But there are those of bigger size projects who need something more on a professional basis. This is to put together a large-scale site that is usually meant for large companies to build an ecommerce site, social site, or enterprise level. Here is what I think are a complete synopsis but quick overview of what programming language you would want to go with. Let me now explain these in the order as explained at Tiobe.

1. Java-what else can I say. This is very complex language that makes many vets drop the language and venture into other languages. There are many frameworks that include popular Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Hibernate, Struts, Spring, and so many more. There are so many reasons why this is popular. You have the likes of Weblogic, IBM, Oracle, Apple, Google, and many other large vendors who stand behind it. Also, this is a language which is scalable, mature, and proven to handle any traffic load. If your budget is not limited, you could always go with a great application server like Webspeheres (from IBM) or Weblogic or the free JBoss. There is always choice. These servers are rock solid for any project or site. That is why huge sites like Ebay, Amazon, and CNN are developed in Java. Also, Google’s back end services are developed in Java as well. If you ever decide to go with a mobile strategy, Google’s Android, Blackberry, and Nokia’s Symbian are all based on Java 2 Mobile Edition (J2ME) and their own software development kits. You can’t go wrong with Java. One more thing to add is that this language is compiled to the local operating system’s byte code which makes it ideal for speedy sites.
2. C and C++-ahh the older languages, which brought object oriented programming to the mainstream. I am kind of excited by this language, as it is the closest language you will find to any Unix or Linux operating system, Just like Java, it is compiled to byte code to make it really fast. The main purposes of C/C++ is for those more complex backend systems used for purposes like multithreading or concurrency. You will find many local based servers written in this language. I always compare C/C++ like checkers, easy to understand but hard to master depending on the developer.
3. PHP-outside of PERL, this language is great to develop raw websites with. It is also proven it can scale beautifully. Even Apache can easily include PHP flavors into any web server. It is quite advanced if you want to go there. You can also do some fancy stuff. The big disadvantages is you have to code your own navigation with rowsets from calls against databases. I am sure there are more advanced extensions to do this but PHP does show it’s age compared to newer web scripting languages.
4. Visual Basic-Do I really need to talk about this one? First, it is Microsoft (MS). If you are a Microsoft shop, obviously .NET is the way to go so you should stick with the trilogy of ASP, Visual Basic, and C#. It is a very easy language to work with since it is forms based with your controls to do custom stuff. The Visual Studio is really decent to bang out .NET applications. It might be so great to develop custom or back end work so that is where C# comes in. My biggest gripe against Microsoft is the lock down, they force you to upgrade, and the costs involved for licensing. That would suck for those projects that are price sensitive. If you can, stick with open source and free languages outside of the Microsoft world.
5. C# (C Sharp)-I really like this language. The syntax makes sense and yes, there are some unique ideas coming from Microsoft. This is especially true with your getting and setter properties of the language. All though it is not quite an original language, you can see the real rip off from Java and its predecessor to C or C++. Remember that Visual C++ was part of the older Visual Studio a few years ago.
6. Pyhton-there is always this debate between Ruby and Python. Without Rails, Python easily wins over Ruby. Why? It is a closer scripting language that Unix based programmers prefer. From my understanding, it is mostly used for script testing or front-end development. Just ask Google or Yahoo as they use Python for their front-end home pages. That brings some clout for the language.
7. Ruby on Rails-I have not seen a lot of demand for this language on the enterprise level but it is really coming around. It is so easy to put together a website using this language. Major search engines due to its URL structure love it. It is really quick to assemble a website as some consulting companies are switching to it. One needs to understand that Ruby is a separate language. As said, Python would be a better choice but once you implement with Rails the framework, could not ask for a better language. Many former developers of Java and C++ are jumping ship to this language. There are so many reasons that include the ability to quickly whip up a Struts like application. That is really appealing. The only gripe I have for RoR is it’s cryptic syntax. Unless you know RoR, you will not quickly pick up the source as with other more traditional languages.
8. PERL-Do I really I need to review this language. It is a dinosaur web language. To be precise, it was the original so don’t choose this one unless you need to maintain something. There are some many better languages as explained above.

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)? How can you apply NLP techniques in your life? In this article, I will discuss all aspects of NLP and how you can benefit from NLP techniques.

What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a behavioural science that was developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. They had claimed that NLP had theories, principles, practices, methods and techniques of three varied fields – linguistics, computer science and neurology.

So NLP has three main components: neuro, language and programming.

NLP has often been defined as a “modeling excellence”. Modelling is the core activity in NLP and is the process of extricating and replicating the language structure and behavioural patterns of an individual who is excellent at a given activity.

NLP  may be described best as “the science of human excellence”!

History of NLP

NLP originated when Richard Bandler, a student at University of California, Santa Cruz, was transcribing taped therapy sessions of the Gestalt therapist Fritz Perls as a project for the psychiatrist Robert Spitzer, who had commissioned Bandler to teach drums to his son.

Soon he was engaged in a different project for Spitzer and transcribed the recorded therapeutic sessions of therapist Fritz Perls. Bandler believed he recognized particular word and sentence structures which facilitated the acceptance of Perls’ positive suggestions. Bandler took this idea to one of his university teachers, John Grinder.

Then Bandler and Grinder together produced the model they named “Meta Model”, a model of what they believed to be influential word structures and how they work.. They also “modelled” the therapeutic sessions of the family therapist Virginia Satir.

They published a book “The Structure of Magic” in 1975 which contained their work. The main subject of the book was that it was possible to analyse and codify the therapeutic methods of Satir and Perl. They said that even the therapy appeared magical, everybody could learn it easily.

British anthropologist Gregory Bateson introduced Bandler and Grinder to Milton Erickson, an American psychiatrist and founding member of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis.

Erickson was well known for his unconventional approach to therapy, for his ability to “utilize” anything about a patient to help them change, including their beliefs, favorite words, cultural background, personal history, or even their neurotic habits. He treated the unconscious mind as creative, solution-generating, and positive medium.

Soon Erickson became the third model for NLP.

Today, NLP is a profitable industry and many variants of the practice are found in seminars, workshops, books and audio programs in the form of exercises and principles that intend to influence behavioral and emotional change in self and others. There is great variation in the depth and breadth of training and standards of practitioners, and some disagreement between those in the field about which patterns are, or are not “NLP”.

NLP Principles

There are 2 important principles of NLP.

1- The Map is Not the Territory. As human beings, we don’t understand the reality, we only understand the perceptions of the reality. We respond to the world around us through our sensory representational systems. It means that it is “neuro-linguistic” map of reality which determines how we behave, but not the reality itself.

2- Life and ‘Mind’ are Systemic Processes. The processes taking place within a human being and between human beings and environment are systematic. It is not possible to isolate the part of the system from the rest of the system.

All NLP techniques and models are based on these 2 principles.

How Can NLP Help You?

Training in Neuro Linguistic Programming benefits you in different ways. It mainly helps to maximize your power of communication with others.

NLP is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do.

NLP also helps to understand and alter unconscious behaviors. NLP teaches how our brain works, how we store the information and the most important, how we can change our behaviors etc.

Many people study NLP to help them become more effective in their chosen field. The patterns can be employed across a wide area of applications ranging from fields as diverse as education, team building, sales, marketing, personal development, leadership and coaching. Wherever there is human interaction and growth potential, NLP can be used to develop and enhance performance.

NLP techniques are widely used in teaching, self help, management and other spheres. NLP is generally taught in an accelerated manner using direct examples and hands-on experimental training. One of the best ways to learn NLP is working with NLP practitioner.

You can also learn it from books, seminars and online home study courses and apply NLP techniques in your life.

If your friend will help you, then perl is a good choice. You need to say what your webserver’s OS is to really answer where you should get Perl. However, if it is Windows, then ASPN perl is both free and a good source of information. If I need to do something particular, I type the question into a search engine. Typing Perl tutorial should get you many hits.

That all said, I would do the website in PHP. It is designed for this and would probably be easier.

Nah, i don’t think it was that funny at all, but you have to think of it through the networks point of view, there spending all this money on a show which isn’t raking in half as much ratings as others like desperate housewives.
Im sure you will find a better show to get into

PHP does read/parse for every request, but if you have the APC module installed then it will at least cache your files’ opcode (see http://www.php.net/manual/en/book.apc.php ).

That being said, even with APC installed and properly configured we’ve seen huge performance hits when the number of require()’d files starts to grow – we ended up concatenating a bunch of php class definition files into one before pushing to the live servers.

I guess this doesn’t really answer your question as to which is faster though. Generally speaking I doubt that any speed advantage by either php or mod_perl would be enough to justify one over the other; I’d rather look at the feature set of each (IMO mod_perl wins in that respect), ease of use/learning (PHP is best here), and where each is likely to end up in 5 years (Perl is less and less popular)

I use apache2 and mod_perl2… I followed the instructions and now all my classic cgi programs run in mod_perl2.
